Old Soul Design

Welcome to the Revamped Old Soul Design

Film camera and contact sheets on a wooden desk — a photographer's working space in autumn light

The old version of this site had too many things in it. There was a graphic design section, a client work section, a photoblog, a portfolio, a shop that hadn't been updated in two years, and a bio that still said I was based somewhere I'd left in 2007. It needed clearing out.

This version is simpler. The photography is front and center. The three things I actually shoot — food, travel, and portraits of people in their work — are all represented in the portfolio and this blog. The graphic design work has moved elsewhere, or been retired. It served its purpose and I've moved on from most of it.

The name stays. Old Soul Design started as a one-person graphic design and photography operation, and the "design" in the name feels accurate in a broader sense now — designing how food looks in a frame, how a travel essay holds together as a visual sequence, how a portrait conveys character without being heavy-handed about it. That kind of design never left.

The photoblog will continue running alongside the portfolio. Shorter entries, occasional notes on process, some frames that don't fit anywhere else. Start with the Work page if you want the formal overview. The portfolio guide has more on how I think about curating work. Prints are at the prints page.
